I found this giant mural of 1940s cannery workers on the back of building #225 on Cannery Row. It was painted by local artist John Cerney a few years ago. Here's a homemade video about the history of Monterey's sardine industry, although Steinbeck's book "Cannery Row" is really the best source for glimpsing what life was like on the "row."
