Monterey County Courthouse

Not sure who these distinguished heads represent, but they were sculpted by local artist Jo Mora (1876-1947). One site describes him as a "Sculptor, painter, author, illustrator, cartoonist, muralist and diorama-maker, as well as an honorary member of the Hopi and Navajo tribes, cowhand, and photographer."

Wow, what a life he had.

P.S. Courthouses scare me.

I think what would have interested me most is cowhand. I like the composition of your shot too.

I didn't know one could be an honorary member of a tribe.

I've got to remember to check it out next time I'm in Salinas. The guy on the right looks like Steinbeck. Almost. Maybe they're just his cousins.
